The iOptron CEM40EC is a medium weight equatorial GoTo mount with a weight capacity of 40 pounds, featuring a high-resolution RA encoder for <0.25 arc-second accuracy, an integrated electronic polar finder (iPolar), a Universal Self-Centering Saddle that accepts both Losmandy and Vixen style dovetail plates, GPS, and an internal cable management system. The center-balanced equatorial mount design places the balance point directly over the tripod, resulting in greater stability and allowing a better weight capacity to mount weight ratio—enabling the 15.8 pound mount head to carry up to 40 pounds. Equipped with a high-resolution right ascension encoder, this EC version delivers real-time tracking correction with ±0.25 arcsecond RMS accuracy without requiring constant autoguiding intervention. For long focal length astrophotography, the CEM40EC's sub-arcsecond encoder tracking enables confident 5–10 minute exposures with minimal guiding correction—and in some cases, even unguided.
