The Losmandy AZ8 is a precision dual-saddle alt-azimuth mount featuring independent payload capacity of 35 pounds per side for a total carrying capacity of 70 pounds, making it well-suited for visual astronomy with mid-sized refractors, SCTs, or compact imaging setups. Built entirely from CNC-machined black anodized aluminum with stainless steel hardware, the AZ8 incorporates fine needle bearings, high-quality 7075 aluminum worm gears, and precision brass worm drives to ensure smooth, controlled manual tracking with fingertip-level tension control on both axes. The motorless design with dual heads is ideal for comparing observations with different telescopes simultaneously—such as pairing a wide-field scope with a high-power planetary scope—and makes it particularly valuable for outreach, educational settings, and lunar and planetary observing at high magnifications.
